1987- THE SWC JOURNEY – A STORY OF SUPPORT

The Student Wellness Centre began in 1987 with a mission to support the emotional and mental well-being of students. What started with one dedicated counsellor, Ms. Amita Tagare, helping nearly 150 students, has grown into a dynamic hub serving over 12,000.

As the demand for mental health support increased, we expanded into two additional offices, offering guidance for emotional concerns, personal issues, and academic stress. Over time, we embraced a holistic approach by combining counselling, resources, workshops, peer support, and wellness initiatives that promote resilience and growth.

To create a safe and welcoming environment, we moved into our current, dedicated Wellness Centre on the third floor — a space designed to meet the evolving needs of our student community.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to fostering well-being and building a stronger, healthier IIT Bombay community.
